Giving back to the community with Fugee Org

How we give back to the community

KW Malaysia Cares is a charity organization we established to support our KW Malaysia family members facing hardships due to sudden emergencies, as well as others in need, as part of our commitment to giving back to the community. Every year, KW Cares Worldwide holds a RED DAY to serve and support those in need.

This year, we had the privilege of collaborating with Fugee Org, founded by Deborah Henry, to assist refugee children who have endured unfortunate circumstances and conflicts in their home countries. This partnership also helped us appreciate the peace we enjoy in our own nation.

I had the honor of working and living in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where I personally took in two refugees. Through this experience, I witnessed their pain of being unable to return home or be with their families. I often overheard their sorrowful conversations with loved ones and learned of their family members lost in conflict zones. It is truly disheartening to see their suffering, yet it also reminds me of how fortunate I am to live in Malaysia. It is an immense privilege to be part of this meaningful cause and to offer them hope for the future.

Below is a brief overview of what Fugee Org does. If you can support them in any way, I thank you for your generosity.

God Bless,

Francis Ngooi

“Empowering Refugee Children’s Education: Support The Mission to Give Back to the Underprivileged and Foster Learning Across Borders”

Fugee Org, founded by Deborah Henry, is a leading educational non-profit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, empowering refugee education and employability. With a commitment to equality and access, they’ve served over 700 students at Fugee School and work with partners to uphold children’s right to education. Recognized by UNHCR Malaysia, Fugee School provides holistic education, fostering childhood exploration and learning in a safe environment.

Their HiEd Scholarship and youth programs address barriers to tertiary education, aiming to increase graduation rates and promote societal integration. Education is key for refugees to thrive, and with stakeholder support, Fugee provides a comprehensive educational journey, nurturing successful agents of change.

Refugees in Malaysia

Malaysia, not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, denies refugees access to education, formal employment, and healthcare. Despite this, over 180,000 refugees reside here, including 46,000 children, facing constant fear and exploitation. Interventions by UNHCR Malaysia, local NGOs, and social enterprises enable the community to endure these unstable conditions. As a transition country for refugees worldwide, families endure lengthy resettlement processes lasting years.
